Chapel Hill, NC (January 3, 2025) -- The NCIOM on January 6 will commence the 2025 cohort of the Legislative Staff Health Policy Fellows Program. This program brings together legislative staff from the North Carolina General Assembly to dig into data, information, policy options, and knowledge necessary to effectively serve constituents.

The 2025 cohort of LSHPF participants includes 22 people from the North Carolina House, Senate, and the Fiscal Research and Analysis Divisions.

Over the course of four sessions between January and March, legislative staff will cover the health landscape of North Carolina, with specific focuses on rural health, behavioral health, Medicaid, maternal and child health, and older adult health. Health policy experts, policymakers, and guest speakers will help lead the discussions to ensure a balance of information. There will also be a facilitated exercise on developing policy solutions to address issues in maternal and child health.

There will be ample time for discussion about community needs and what staff are hearing from constituents, as well as exercises on problem-solving constituent concerns.

The Legislative Staff Health Policy Fellows Program is a companion to the NCIOM’s Legislative Health Policy Fellows program, which brings together legislators from the NC Senate and NC House to dig deeper into the data, information, policy options, and knowledge necessary for effective health policy decision-making.
