Chapel Hill, North Carolina (August 20, 2024) – The North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM) will host our annual health policy meeting, “Long-Term Service and Supports: Policy Solutions for a Changing Landscape,” on November 21, 2024, from 8:00AM to 4:00PM at the McKimmon Conference and Training Center in Raleigh.
The 2024 annual meeting will focus on innovations in care delivery, payment, Medicare and Medicaid, multigenerational challenges, and much more, recognizing our state’s aging demographics and the workforce needed to meet their needs. A legislative roundtable featuring state lawmakers will provide participants the opportunity to hear from policymakers regarding their priorities for action.
Robert Espinoza, MPA, a prominent advocate and thought leader in the fields of workforce, aging, and caregiving, will provide the keynote address. Espinoza serves as CEO of the National Skills Coalition, which fights for state and federal policies that promote inclusive, high-quality skills training so that workers across industries access a better life and local businesses see sustained growth.
“I'm excited to keynote the North Carolina Institute of Medicine Annual Meeting to discuss one of our country's most pressing issues: transforming the long-term care system by strengthening the direct care workforce,” said Espinoza.
Prior to his role at the National Skills Coalition, Espinoza served as the Executive Vice President of Policy at PHI, where he oversaw its acclaimed think tank on the direct care workforce for nearly a decade. He currently serves as the Board Chair of the American Society on Aging, is a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, and sits on the board of directors for the National Academy of Social Insurance and the FrameWorks Institute.
Each year, the NCIOM annual meeting brings together hundreds of practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to work toward health policy solutions for all the people of North Carolina.
“As a rapidly aging state and a hub for health care delivery and payment innovations, North Carolina is in a unique position for policy change,” said NCIOM President and CEO Michelle Ries, MPH. “We are thrilled to present an opportunity for those interested in improving long-term services and supports in North Carolina to come together and develop policy solutions at this year’s annual meeting.”
